Optical Materials |
|||||||||||||||||
Optical materials are solid substances that are transparent to visible, infrared, or ultraviolet light. They are used in a way to redirect, modify or transform light beams. Before the invention of the laser in the 1960s, Optical materials basically referred to optical glass. In recent decades the infrared optical materials used mainly for military applications, crystals and low expansion materials have become a very important part of optics. This section systematically presents their optical, thermal, chemical, and mechanical properties, and introduces potential device applications.
